Lake Nona Leadership Council meeting, March 2023

The Lake Nona Leadership Council is a group of scientists from the Pharmaceutical industry and FDA that meets annually to help shape the direction of the Center for Pharmacometrics and Systems Pharmacology.  I’ve enjoyed being a member of the council for several years, but my favorite part of the meetings is always interacting with the trainees.  This year, along with the faculty at the Center, Ana Ruiz and I developed a fun session where students “pitched” their research to a panel of sharks, and received constructive feedback from the panel.

After the session, the trainees and panelists were matched up in mentor-mentee pairs.  Each panelist was given a 2 minute opportunity to pitch to the trainees on why they should be selected as their mentor, and the diversity, cleverness, and humor of the pitches were so fun!  I took the opportunity to present some testimonials from a few of my past mentees, who you may know by name 😉   Two years later, I’m still close with my awesome mentee Gamze– it was a great pairing!

Who wouldn't want this person to be their mentor? 🤣
